The correct equipment can prevent many serious injuries from happening.
Dead arm, is a common water ski racing injury. This is where the nerves in the shoulder are severed of permanently damaged during a fall where the skiers arm is twisted over the skiers head rotating at the shoulder socket.

In this installment of our guide to skiing we look at ski safety. Find out how safe skiing is and what you can do to increase your safety when skiing. Must Know Tips For Skiers And Snowboarders

We all wish we could pack up our snowboards or skis and hit the snow hard without being tormented over anything. Regrettably, this isn’t the way it goes. In order to get all that we can out of our athletics, it’s a fantastic idea to advance our skills, utilize good-working equipment and stick to good safety precautions Skier Fitness Training – Unique Skiing Program!

Avalance ski training program has been created by Mike Geary a certified personal trainer and nutrition specialist. The course consists of 30 different exercises which are completely ski related. The course will help to increase strength, power and endurance in your legs, how to reduce post skiing leg and back soreness. Finally most importantly, this book will teach you how you can do more controlled skiing which means less stumbling and missed turns. This injury normally results in partial paralyses of the affected arm.
Helmet: a correct fitting helmet should be worn by the skier. The helmet needs to cover the ears and have a firm strap with a clip rather than a buckle. The helmet will prevent head injury in the event of impact with the skier’s race ski or any number of other objects. The clip on the chin strap enables the helmet to come from the skiers head if the water grabs the helmet. This can prevent neck injuries.
Goggles: Goggles are more for comfort as at high speed the wind and water spray can nearly blind a skier. Yet they are required for safety also. Correct fitting goggles should be worn and should be specialised H2O goggles. H2O goggles are manufactured using materials that are water resistant so that the goggles last longer.
Wetsuit: A custom fitted buoyancy wetsuit should be worn. The suit should have at least 3 torso straps, knee straps and knee braces. A correctly fitted wetsuit helps support the skier’s joints and helps protect the body from injury upon impact with the water. Sufficient buoyancy should be built into the suit to keep the skier afloat in the water, especially after a fall, where the skier could be unconscious.
Neck Brace: A neck brace is recommended to be fitted to the suit to enable support of the head and neck in the event of a fall. This can assist in preventing serious neck injuries.
Arm restraints: Correctly fitted arm restraints are recommended as they can prevent dead arm in the event of a fall. Arm restraints can be purchased attached to a neck brace, or they can be fitted to a short sleeve wetsuit. The arm restraint restricts the travel of the upper arm preventing it from being wrenched.
Ski Bindings: ski bindings should be correctly fitted so that they are snug, but not too tight. In the event of a fall your feet should come out of the bindings to prevent injury while tumbling with the ski still attached. The binding should not be too loose either as a snug fitting binding is required for proper ski control while racing.
That covers all the necessary safety equipment for water ski racing. Many skiers may use other items for comfort or injury prevention for existing ailments, but the above items are the main necessities for a safe seasons water ski racing. If the above equipment is correctly fitted and worn religiously while practicing, training and racing injury can be minimised or even prevented in the case of a minor or even serious fall.
Water ski racing is a fun group and family sport, so safety is paramount and is enforced by race organisers around the world.

One not in the know would visualize a person aged between 17 to 30, buff and physically fit, as the one who frequents bungy jumping locations and engages in this one of a kind adventure sport. Contrary to most beliefs, bungy jumping is available to all ages. The main criteria for one to engage in this extreme sport, is that they meet the physical and health requirements. Simple logic would imply that children are not regular bungee jumpers, but then there are some isolated and special instances. The same goes for senior people. No one is too old, just probably not physically fit. This statement comes to truth as the oldest bungee jump ever recorded was a 96 year old man by the name of Mohr Keet.

Young children are not completely restricted as other forms of bungy jumping are available to them. Over the years since its discovery, bungy jumping has evolved into different kinds of activities mostly stemming from its main concept. Bungee trampoline is one of the inspired variations that is readily available to children from age 5.

It really doesn’t take that much to enjoy this sport. Whatever age you are, in whatever profession, social status, the first thing you have to consider before planning to do a jump is your current health standing. Next thing to consider is cost. Prices start off at $60 and go up to as high as $200 depending on the location and adventure package.

What also makes this sport great and easy for anyone to take part in is the little amount of training that is involved, apart from standard safety briefings, there is not much skill to it. You just stand on the platform and jump off with a cord attached to your ankles.

Bungee jumping is fun for all ages because of the adrenaline rush that is not easily duplicated. With the anxious climb, to the nerve wracking stand at the ledge, it is almost too scary of a feat to not want to do it! To onlookers, it seems to defy all logic and sense of being safe. Hurling yourself in an open free fall from 120 feet off a ledge, seems pretty insane and nothing that people in their right mind would actually consider doing.

But that’s just it! It’s the thrill of doing something you know is safe and extreme at the same time! The exhilarating feeling that bungee jumping gives is way beyond any age. Young or old, you will surely enjoy this one of a kind adrenalin rush and will surely come back for more!

Adventure Sports: Bungee Jumping
Bungee jumping is an adventurous sport where the participant jumps from a great height while he is connected to a large rubber rope. The jump can be made from the top of a tall building, bridge or crane. To bring in more adrenalin rush, jump can be made from a moving object like helicopter or a hot air balloon.
Bungee word was developed in 1930, which meant rubber eraser. The idea originated from dwellers of the Pentecost Island, who used to tie vines to their ankles and jumped from tall wooden platforms. The vine was substituted by elastic cord. Members of the Dangerous Sports club made the first official bungee jumping on April 1, 1979 from the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol. Initially they were arrested, but later on they appeared on television and jumped from many places including hot air balloon and mobile cranes, in 1982.
A J Hackett of New Zealand did the first commercial bungee jumping in 1986, from Auckland’s Greenhithe Bridge. After that he made numerous jumps from famous monuments like the Eiffel Tower. The first bungee jumping site was laid in Queenstown, New Zealand, on the Kawarau Bridge.
The rubber rope absorbs the complete energy of the fall and when the rope snaps back, the jumper flies in the upward direction. The process of oscillation continues until all energy is utilized. The rubber rope is covered with cloth and has hooks on both the end. It is a specially designed braided shock cord. A tough outer cover encloses many latex strands. The function of the tough outer cover is to provide durability. Some consider using unbraided cords without the tough outer cover, which delivers a longer and softer bounce. Commercial operators are forced to use body harness to ensure safety in case of accidents.
Variations to traditionally bungee jumping are catapult, twin tower, bungee running and bungee trampoline. In catapult, the jumper is placed on the ground and the cord is stretched, usually with the help of a crane, and then the jumper is released and he goes shooting up in the air. Twin towers employs two oblique cords. Bungee running, as the name suggests involves running and not jumping. The rope is attached to the participant and he runs as far as possible on an inflatable surface. The point maximum reached is marked with the help of a Velcro-backed marker, after which the runner gets pulled back to his initial position. Two or more people are involved in this and it is more like a running competition. Bungee Trampoline has a mix of bungee and trampolining. The body is fitted into a harness attached to a trampoline, which in turn is attached to a bungee. When the participant begins to jump he goes higher than a normal trampoline would.
Bungee jumping has been incorporated in many movies and video albums. The most famous of all is the James Bond movie, Golden Eye, which was released in 1995. The movie opens with Bond jumping from a dam in Russia. The jump was no special effect and was genuine.
Like other sports, bungee jumping has its share of possible injuries. The reason for most of them is human error, along with failure of safety harness, miscalculation of elasticity of the rope and improper connection of the cord. Possible injuries are body entangling with the rope, rope burn, dislocations, eye trauma, uterine prolapsed, back injury, pinched fingers and bruises. Jumper’s age, weight, experience, and location should be reviewed before the jump, as a safety measure.

The basics of water skiing seem simple to the inexperienced skier: hang on to the rope, and let the boat do the work as you enjoy a cool glide over the water. There is a little bit more to it than that, but beginners can easily become experienced skiers by taking some water skiing lessons.

Many people learn to water ski at the family cottage. Of course it’s fun to learn with friends, but you may not always receive the best level of instruction. You can find professional instructors who are committed to making your first water skiing experience a fun and memorable one. Check local lakeside resorts or coastal towns to see if water skiing lessons are available in your area.

The best way to learn water skiing basics is to start on land. This can seem strange, but it’s the ideal place for you to become comfortable with techniques, body position fundamentals and the safety precautions that are necessary in water skiing. Once you and your instructor are confident in your understanding of water skiing basics on land, you can then move into the water.

Some water skiing lessons will involve a device called a static boom that’s attached to the side of the boat. This offers stability for you, and allows your instructor to keep a close eye on your technique.

First-time water skiing experiences are most special for younger skiers. If their first experience is a bad one, they’ll probably never want to try it again. Children need to learn from a facility that emphasizes safety and understands the special needs of children, and provides instruction in a nurturing environment. Children’s water skiing lessons often involve a second instructor who will ski alongside the student to provide guidance, support and additional safety precaution.

Facilities that teach beginners how to water ski tend to have the highest quality of equipment, and generally provide proper gear designed to help the student to enjoy a safe and fun ride. Safety should always come first, so follow your instructions carefully.

If someone you know will be giving you water skiing lessons, remember to start out on a small, private body of water. Be sure that you are skiing clear of any other boats or people. You need to start off without any distractions.

Water skiing lessons are essential for any beginner, whether a young child or a nervous (or know-it-all) adult. Don’t be too proud to accept water skiing lessons from a professional. Their professional advice will make your first water skiing experience a fun and memorable one.

There are two types of people in this world- adventurous souls and non-adventurous beings. Some think that as soon as you reach the 20′s more people try more and more daring activities. Others say it’s something that happens when you realise life is passing you by and there’s so much to still experience.

It’s a debatable subject and opinions differ. When thinking of an adventurous activity to try, one of the first things that jump to mind is bungee jumping.

In South Africa, there are two popular bungee jumping bridges that attract hundreds of adventurous souls throughout the year- Gourits bridge and the Bloukrans Bridge.

Bloukrans bridge has been around since as early as 1989 and offers jumpers a 65m bridge.

    Related Coverage

Jumping Higher – What You Need To Know About Vertical Jump Form

Here’s why you should think about focusing on your vertical jump form, even if you currently already feel comfortable with how high you jump. There so many different examples of why form is an important element to jumping higher. If you’re a left-footed jumper, try jumping off of your right foot, and see if you can get as high. Is your right foot any weaker or stronger? No, it’s the same. But because there is decreased coordination, you are not able to harness the power that you already have. How to Jump Higher For Volleyball

Volleyball puts more emphasis on jumping higher than any other sport in the world and basketball would come in second. So if you want to be better at volleyball it only makes sense that you would want to learn how to jump higher. How to Jump Higher

Every athlete wants to learn how to jump higher and with good reason, being able to jump higher than your competition provides you with a huge advantage. Jumping higher isn’t about going to the gym and getting really strong legs that can squat tons of weight. If this were the case bodybuilders would be professional basketball players. Don’t get me wrong, you do need leg strength to jump high but it is only half of the equation. Volleyball Training to Jump Higher

When most people think of training for volleyball they only think of the drills that you do with the volleyball but what about jumping? You need to train yourself to jump to higher if you want to be a better volleyball player. Don’t get me wrong, you still need to practice all of your other skills such as passing, setting and hitting. But one huge advantage to have over your competition is being able to jump higher than them. Not only can you expect to do normal bungee jumping, you can also make use of the Bridge Swing. Think of an exciting way to get off the platform and just do it! Whether you jump nose first, crawl off the platform or get pushed off, you will experience something out of the ordinary.

As your breath gets caught in your throat and adrenaline sings in your veins, you will swing to the opposite side of the bridge. You definitely can’t compare this experience to your playground swing now can you?

If you want to do the traditional bungee jumping and feel the true feel of the plunge, try bungee jumping off the 65m bridge. Not in your wildest dreams could you have ever imagined approaching water at this speed! Say hey to the Gourits River as your cord stretches and pulls while all your senses sizzle.
The other bungee jumping bridge is situated at the Tsitsikamma Forest Village Market, roundabout 40km from Plettenberg Bay- where you will find the “highest commercially operating Bungee in the World”.

The Bloukrans bungee jumping bridge is a gob-smacking 216-meter high! Yes, you heard right! You will have to get all your nerves together and make sure your heart is in a good condition, because this bridge will certainly test that adventurous soul of yours.

Because of the height of this bridge, they offer a few different options as to things to definitely try once you get to this bridge.

Obviously, they offer you a bungee jumping experience that you will never forget! Imagine what Zorro felt like when jumping off a moving train, now multiply that with 400 and you might just be able to compare the thrill of bungee jumping.

Apart from this, the Bloukrans bridge group also offers an activity called the “Flying Fox”. Now, don’t think just because this isn’t bungee, it’s not as exciting. You will rocket off a platform and swing / fly / soar for 200m to the archway of the bridge. Expect to feel feelings you’ve never experienced before!

If you are one of those who believe you haven’t lived till you’ve tried at least everything once, then the “Double Rush Adventure Combo” is just the thing for you!

The Double Rush Adventure Combo is a combination of the flying fox and the bungee jump. You will soar through the sky for 200m, preparing you for the 216m bungee jump.

Can you even imagine how you will feel after experiencing two pumping experiences after one another?

For those that can’t get the courage together, there’s the much easier on the heart Bridge Walking Tours. You can walk along the catwalk to the top of the arch where the adventurous jump from and you can watch as they plunge down.

Are you feeling excited yet? Do you want to look back one day and say that you really lived? Then bungee jumping is definitely something that should get jotted down on your to-do list!

Though I like to spend time outdoors, it is not possible for me to do it. I have a very busy as well as a high pressure corporate job, which more than often has me very stressed out. It is wonderful to have something to help me get relief from stress in the difficult times. I like climbing walls, and when I am very stressed I go and climb walls. Around twenty minutes from my home there is an excellent indoor climbing gym and I just have to get the climbing gear and get into the car, and I am ready to scramble up the most difficult wall climbing I can do.

Most of us believe that it is tough to climb and that requires incredible physical fitness. This is somewhat true as you have to be strong to be a good climber. You need to be trim and agile, with excellent lower and upper body strength. But you don’t have to be very strong to begin it as climbing walls can accommodate people with different levels of skill. You can do something even when you are beginning, are not in a very good shape and are scared of heights. A good climbing gym has simple low boulders to high climbing walls. You just have to start.

The best way to get into great shape is to join a climbing gym and without workout or even aerobic classes you will maintain excellent shape. In fact when you rock climb, you end up doing all of this. You may need to take some lessons initially, but it will not take too much time to learn the fundamentals. You will need an expert to show you how to arrange your equipment correctly as well as some fundamental holds and techniques. It is also vital to choose the correct gear when you start climbing. When all this is done you are ready to go out and enjoy. You can have fun as long as you want at wall climbing and you will feel much better and stronger once you have started this sport.

In fact I don’t think of anything else when I climb walls. There is total concentration on the activity. There is nothing else in my mind but for the next handhold, foothold, or the next place where I can rest. It is true that it is scary and disorienting for some individuals initially, but when you get involved in it completely it is very exciting.

You hit that highway that leads to the lake, excited voices echoing throughout your SUV. Your wife and kids are just as delighted with the new boat as you are and are discussing the whopper they hope to catch. You arrive at the lake, launch the runabout that contains the entire family’s fishing gear and in no time at all, you are skimming across the water, every family member safely encased in a lifejacket. You just know that this is going to be a great family outing and everyone loves the new fishing boat.

A fishing boat can be anything between a canoe where you dangle basic bait over the side in a river or stream to a powerful cabin cruiser or yacht. Basically, all you need to get out onto the water is a vessel that is seaworthy. There are a large variety of fishing boats available on today’s market. You can buy them at boat shows, fishing shows or dealerships. Let’s look at some different types of fishing boats.

Freshwater Fishing Boats
If you enjoy fishing in freshwater rivers, lakes and streams, leave the big, powerful boats for someone else. Choose a fiberglass or aluminum boat that is lightweight and easy to transport. A bowrider, runabout, walleye boat or a boat with a small or dual console will meet all of your freshwater fishing needs. These boats are perfect for family outings.

Bass Boats
Bass boats ride low in the water and are usually very colorful and extremely fast. They can be aluminum or fiberglass and most often they are equipped with platforms in both the bow and stern for easy casting. If you’ve always dreamed of owning the perfect bass boat, be sure to buy one that has a trolling motor mounted on the bow. These boats are mainly used for sport fishing and tournament fishing.

Offshore Saltwater Boats
If you enjoy heading out on the open sea for a day of saltwater fishing that includes huge fish and heavy tackle, you will need a heavy boat that is dependable and can be relied on in all situations and weather. Anything less than a cuddy cabin or center console that’s equipped with either twin or single outboard motors will not fit the bill. The high end of an offshore saltwater boat is a bluewater or convertible that comes complete with luxury quarters and elaborate salons. These boats should be equipped with inboard diesel engines that have maximum power.Inshore Saltwater Boats
If you’re planning to fish for tarpin, bonefish, trout and snook or redfish on tropical flats, a light boat will take you a long way. This type of boat should always be less than a 25-footer and powered by a single outboard motor. The best type of vessel for inshore saltwater fishing is a basic bay boat or flat boat. Both types of boats offer a spacious deck for casting and float well in shallow water.

Float Tubes
Float tubes are devices that allow fly anglers who don’t own a boat easy access to get out onto the water. They are excellent for fishing ponds, lakes and mountain streams. Essentially a float tube is a floatation device that is equipped with a seat. The angler sits in the seat while wearing fins and kicks his way around while partially submerged. Fly fishing from float tubes can be difficult, especially for those who are using them for the first time. It definitely takes time to hone your fly casting skills from a float tube.

There are two basic types of float tubes – traditional and pontoon. Traditional float tubes are usually round and have an opening in the front or middle. Basically, these are an inner tube with built-in features for fly fishing. These float tubes can take a lot of time to maneuver because they are round in shape and cause a lot of water resistance.

The newer pontoon float tubes are much easier to use. These are equipped with two pontoons, or air chambers, one on each side of the fisherman. Pontoon float tubes have less water resistance and offer far less drag than traditional ones because the pontoons are V-shaped and move through the water almost effortlessly.

If you are thinking of purchasing a fishing boat, shop around, talk to anglers who own their own boats and do your research to help you decide which type of boat you’d like to have. If you still can’t make a choice, talk to a boat fishing guide or the owner of a fishing charter service. They will be glad to give you tips on how to choose the perfect boat for you.

An aluminum boat is what a boating enthusiast needs out of every other option that he/she can explore. These boats are by far the most preferred by boaters. Aluminum boats are versatile in nature and can come in various size and they are manufactured in different styles keeping in the mind the kind of fishing they can be used for. For small waters you can go for a 10 feet boat while you can also get a 20 feet long boat for wide waters as well.

You can find a lot of choices for sport fishing boats in this genre. The shape of the hull of a boat is the most important factor which you need to keep in mind while buying or renting a boat. The most of the aluminum boats have got a V-shaped hull while you can also find pontoon style fishing boat hull. The shapes and designs are differs from each other and are able to satisfy fishermen’s certain need in fishing. Another advantage of buying an aluminum boat is the choice of making them personal. Means you can actually chose the color and design of the boat. And that’s where these boats are way ahead than fiberglass boats.
Fishermen who are fonder of fishing in the rivers, streams and men made lakes etc., aluminum boats are best suited for them. And that’s why we find more aluminum boats for sale on the boat charters than any other types. People rely on these rigs because they are damage proof and can serve you for long. These vessels give you no chance to get a puncture because of their metallic body and can easily sail upon branches and stumps from trees that are submerged or partially submerged in the waters. And the most alluring part is, even if you get a dent, you can fix with just a hammer.
Aluminum boats are made of metal but they are not prone to rust, in fact carries anti-rust resistance materials in the paints they are fabricated with. These rigs are light yet sturdy. Maintenance of an aluminum boat is easy job to do. You just need a patch of a weld to get rid of holes if they are there. And that’s why these are cost worthy as if you get a whole on wooden or fiberglass boats, it will cost you a lot to get rid of them. Due to all these qualities one such vessel is among most preferred fishing boats for sale today. Aluminum boats don’t ask for much fuel to run and these are easy to park anywhere and everywhere. From 1960, when aluminum rigs first appeared in the market, till, these are the first choice of any angler.

Water skiing is one of the most rewarding recreational activities that I have participated in. I try to enjoy water skiing at every opportunity that I can. I love the water and I love just about any activity that has to do with water, such as swimming, boating, cruising etc.

Ipod Shuffle Ownership

I have had the opportunity to ski on dozens of freshwater lakes and rivers. I have found that water skiing on a river has some very good benefits such as smooth water all the time as well as sometimes miles of travel without having to turn around. This gives the skier very long runs without having to worry about the boat turning and navigating the boat’s wake. Some of the best times of my life were had while water skiing some of my best friends. Some of my buddies would bring coolers full of beer, plenty of gas money and we would head out for the weekend to do some hard-core smooth water hunting at our favorite lake and then ski our tails off.

Of course in order to go skiing you must have access to a boat. I happened to have had a nice little ski boat that we used all the time. It was a little 1989 Bayliner 20 foot open bow which was really a great little boat for day trips and short weekends. This boat had a V-8 engine and an inboard outboard drive which had no problem pulling three skiers at one time. The top speed was up around 45 mph or 40 knots.

So if you really like the outdoors and the like water and boats I recommend skiing on water as an excellent way to enjoy the outdoors, rivers and lakes firsthand while also getting some great exercise. You can rent boats and wave runners at most recreation areas.

You can find a great little used boat for a relatively inexpensive price these days that will provide you with hours and hours of fun on any river or lake that has access for boats. Before you run out and get a boat, make sure to check into your state or your areas boating regulations and get up to speed regarding boat safety. And then load up your cooler, a picnic, fill up your gas tanks and go. Have fun water skiing.
